Police arrests 25 Shila boys, others for kidnapping, armed robbery in Adamawa


The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested 69 people for supposed conspiracy, inciting communal clashes, kidnapping, armed robbery and culpable homicide in the state.

Olubenga Adeyanju, the Commissioner of Police in the state, revealed this during a news brief in Yola on Monday.

Adeyanju said 25 out of the 69 suspects were individuals from group known as Shila Boys, who assaulted decent residents and snatched them of their assets.

“The exhibits recouped from them included one rifle with seven rounds of live ammo, locally made pistol gun with three rounds of live ammo and two cutlasses,” he said.

Adeyanju said 19 of the suspects were apprehended for criminal conspiracy, kidnapping and culpable homicide.

He stated: “The group admitted to have kidnapped Dodde Zumo and Ya’u Mohammadu, all inhabitants of Zumo/Maiha Local Government Area of the state.

“They collected N1 million ransom in March 2020 before they were arrested.

“We recovered three Ak 47 rifles, one dane weapon, two motorcycles and one locally made pistol gun.”

Adeyanju said investigations further prompted the apprehension of another group that kidnapped one Sule Haro, Solomi Ishaya and murdered one Pastor Ishaya in April 2020.

The CP said the other 25 suspects were apprehended for culpable homicide threat to life, impersonation, extortion and inciting communal clashes.

He added that one of the suspects, Buba Mohammed, contrived and killed one Sergeant Amos Joseph, a cop, and left with his Ak47 rifle.

“Police arrested the suspect and recuperated the Ak47 rifle,” he added.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the police command presented an honor of recognition to certain hunters for their commitment in the battle against crime in the state.
